Rosaleen made this artwork as part of Make Way Day 2024. She wants to highlight the obstacles that disabled people face when trying to get out and about.
Rosaleen says “I had an accident caused by cars on the footpath. I fell against one car and I have a balance problem and hurt my face and hands and my knee. I had stitches in my nose and a sling on my hand. It makes me scared to go out, because I know if I fall and there is no one around to help me get up again, I can’t pick myself up. I am not just doing this picture for myself: I’m doing it for all the people with disabilities who are out on the street and need to catch buses and walk about. It is important for them to be able to live as independently as possible and not be afraid that they’re going to be hurt on the pavements.”
